Red Bulls are going in the wrong direction. Same for DC but they have
the points to spare. Freddy played a fine game including a beauty of a
free kick and Matias Donnet(from Boca Jr.) also looked good (does DCU
get unlimited cap space??). Too bad the Revolution can't trade whingers
Twellman and Dempsey for a healthy Pat Noonan. There is life in KC
after the ownership situation was sorted out. Hopefully a stadium deal
is forthcoming. The Fire are playing the best of any team in the east.
Sarachan's options at forward: Herron, Rolfe, Jaqua, Barrett and Carr.

Colorado Rapids 1
Third time in ~ 6 weeks the Rapids have lost by this score. The two games
on either side of the All-Star break and now this one. At the All-Star
break what did the Rapids do? Give their coach a 2 year extension...

But we did lift the Rocky Mountain Cup for the 2nd straight year.

What exactly transpired at that Cup lifting? I know Ellinger got bent
out of shape but it wouldn't be the first time....

Actually it was Checketts (FSL's I/O) who got bent out of shape.

Prior to the game Ellenger made a comment about the Rapids "parading their
little Cup[ in front of them" and earlier in the year had made a comment
about "FSL not having anything in their jocks". Also Colorado's goal came
15 seconds after FSL's Ballouchy went down with an injury that he sustained
while attempting a professional foul to stop the play. Many of the fans and
some of the players thought it was classless for the Rapids to play on while
an FSL player was down.

At the end of the game the Rapids were celebrating their win and Pablo went
loony, stripped off his shirt, and stuffed it down his pants. This is where
the story gets a little unclear, from the footage from TV he stuffs it down
the side of his pants like he's putting it in a pocket and shows it off in
front of the FSL fans, particularly the RCB supporter's group. He says he
was showing how the Rapids have FSL in their pocket and/or how they're
pocketing the "little Cup" and taking it home again. According to the FSL
fans after this he stuck it down the front of his shorts and made some
obscene gestures. Other fans say the he didn't really do that, but Dan
Gargan was standing next to him making obscene gestures. Other FSL fans say
that neither one of them were being particularly obscene, but that they were
egging on a crowd that was already near-riot and was throwing things on the
field at them, and they think only the 12 foot drop from the edge of the
stands to field level prevented a pitch invasion to go after Pablo and Dan.

While this was going on I was handing the Rocky Mountain Cup to Fernando
Clavijo and Joe Cannon and congratulating them so I didn't see it. The
Rapids took the Cup over towards the section the traveling Rapids fans were
in, and some FSL fans in the surrounding section took the opportunity to
throw crap on the field at them. Then Joe Cannon took the Cup across the
field to wave it in the face of the RCB. At some point Dave Checketts,
owner of FSL, stormed on to the field and got in Pablo's face about what he
was doing. Clint Mathis (Clint Mathis for God's sake!) and to step between
them and play peacemaker.

Eventually the players headed into the locker rooms (About 5 minutes total
for all the above), and the FSL fans continued showering the visiting Rapids
fans with soda and bottles (Alcohol free stadium, so no beer). The next day
Checketts released a public statement calling on MLS to suspend Pablo for
his antics and objecting to his actions in a "family-oriented" environment.
Of course, that "family-oriented" environment didn't seemed to make a
difference to Checketts when he decided to get into a shouting match with
Pablo on the field, or in the U.S. Open Cup game a month earlier when Rapids
head coach Fernando Clavijo asked members of the RCB to be ejected at
halftime for allegedly racist comments they were making to him (A he said,
she said situation, I wasn't there), or the obscene gestures the RCB made to
the Rapids players after the game, or the fact that Garlick threw the ball
and hit a Rapids player after the goal, but only got a yellow card for the
offense.

Just to be clear, I saw no problem with what I saw. Pablo was a bit loony
and over the top, but nothing that should have drawn a suspension or an
owner that confronted him on the field. If he did other things that I
didn't see, I can't judge, but a tape was sent to MLS HQ and they reviewed
it and released a statement saying no fines or punishments would be
forthcoming but they would have a "talk" with the involved Rapids players.
I think Checketts is a hypocrite who should be more worried about his fans
throwing crap on the field and onto visiting fans in his "family
environment" than trying to get Pablo suspended.

Does DCU get unlimited cap space??
They dropped two well-paid players in-season (Filomeno and Quaranta);
plus, there's some terrific value on their squad:
Gros $70K
Carroll $60K
Boswell $30K
Perkins $30K

... and considering how often they're unavailable, he needs all five.

Pretty entertaining match. Is it my imagination or does Houston have far
and away the most red cards this season?

According to MLSnet's stats, you're right ... 7 reds for the ex-Quakes,
as opposed to 4 for the next-highest team.

Ironically, the Dynamo are also the most fouled team in the league; by
contrast, the most frequent foulers are the Galaxy, and they haven't
had a player sent off all year.
